LAIRDS LAUNCH NEW MATCHDAY MAGAZINE.

As part of the improvements being made at Kirklands, we have not forgotten the little old matchday programme.

Continued >>>

Lairds new magazine will be launched at the Wakefield game on Bank Holiday Monday, full colour throughout. It is packed full of information, statistics and photos of recent matches.

Lairds secretary Paul Mcloughlin said; "We wanted to bring the programme up to UniBond standard and moreover to make it a worthwhile buy.

To do this we have increased the amount of reading material, including a quiz.

The problem with programme production is that for small print runs the cost is quite high.

We have negotiated a great deal with a digital printing firm in Leeds which should produce an excellent quality magazine and if everyone who comes to the games buys one we will be able to put even more pages in thereby improving it further.

We welcome contributions from fans far and wide, if anyone wishes to submit an article just contact me at the club or by email."

McGuire STAYS AT LAIRDS

'GOOD NEWS WEEK'

Continued >>>

Lairds can announce that high scoring midfielder Jamie McGuire has rejected the offer of a contract from League 2 Stockport County, opting to stay with his home town club.

Ex Tranmere Rovers pro McGuire was trialled at County and played in 4 games for the Hatters. During this time he suitably impressed the League side with his combative midfield style to the point that they wanted him to stay.

In a statement, 22 year old Jamie said; I was pleased with my performances at Stockport and enjoyed playing against my old club Tranmere Rovers in a friendly last week. I was chuffed to be offered a contract but after weighing everything up I feel I've made the right decision in staying with Lairds.

Lairds assistant manager Paul Conboy said; We are delighted that Jamie has decided to stay with the squad. He went to the trial with our blessings and good luck, we obviously didn't want to lose him but couldn't stand in his way. He's scored 74 goals from midfield in the last two seasons and has been with us since we were in the West Cheshire League three years ago. We hope that with Jamie back on board we can continue our climb up the Pyramid. McGuire quickly jumped back into the fold on Tuesday, scoring the first goal in Lairds 2-1 win against Burscough from the UniBond Premier.

Pie, Peas and Snails
You will be forgiven for thinking that the headline above is leading you to an article on extreme gastronomic pleasures!
Instead it the most apt way to introduce cameraderie of the highest order between two football clubs from either side of the Pennines.
UniBond new boys Cammell Lairds and Silsden from the North West Counties first division first crossed paths when both clubs entered the North West Counties League in 2004 from local minor leagues. That season saw both clubs win promotion to the higher division, but with great respect for each other as opposed to friction that can occur when competing clubs vie for their own successes.
Toward the end of last season a fundraising racenight was held at Kirklands after the league encounter between the sides. This proved to be a great success and the Cobbydalers were all too complimentary of the big pans of scouse that were laid on afterwards.
On Saturday the favour was returned at Silsdens temporary home of Keighley RFC's Cougar Park stadium.
The pre-season friendly had to be staged at Silsdens own ground which they hope to return to once floodlights are erected. The largly uneventful match was won by the hosts with a second half strike from Andy Holden.
Then the Lairds contingent boarded their coach for the short trip to Cougar Park.
In an hilarious slant to the 'racenight' theme, Silsden had organised cartoon snail racing!! The packed function room was in fits of laughter as the runaway leading snail was squished by a huge cartoon boot, although it has to be said that no actual snails were hurt in the making of this fundraiser!!!
Lairds skipper Degsy Ward and Lee Addo won the auction race and were instructed to 'get the ale in' for the players pre-season party that ensued!
Rounding off the night were tasty plates of pie and peas and everyone went home happy, with much needed revenue being raised for Silsden to help in their quest to return to their own ground.

From the Lairds Forum The new flag has arrived. First couple of spots on the away coaches are for Young Degsy who has subsidised the cost.

LAIRDS CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN
Cammell Lairds continued to prepare for their inauguration to UniBond League football with the signing of another ex Football League player. Goalkeeper Peter Crookes is the latest newcomer having signed from local rivals Skelmersdale United. Peter has had League experience with Halifax Town and was once on the books of Liverpool and at 6' 2" is an intimidating figure between the posts.
Peter's signing follows the release of Leon Bimpson.Lairds assistant manager Paul Conboy in a statement said "Leon was released in the close season and all at the club wish him well, we have again managed to get our number one target in Peter as we strengthen our squad for the campaign in the UniBond League. The lads have gelled together well and we are quietly confident of another good season." On Saturday Lairds sent out a mixed team of first and second string players at Bradford side Thackley of the Northern Counties East League & ran out 3-1 winners with a number of fine performances, notably ex Shore Villa debutants Jerry Canady who weighed in with the third goal and goalkeeper Antony Powell who made a string of fine saves in the first half to keep Lairds in the game. First team newcomer Alan Bull (no spelling mistake!!) scored two cracking goal to press his claim for a place in the UniBond squad. Lairds Reserve team manager Neil Steadman after the game said "It was a great performance considering Thackley are two divisions higher than Lairds and that a lot of youngsters had been drafted into the team". Neil continued; "We want to show the players that if they show that they are good enough there will be openings for them in the team, and even in the Unibond team as all players are dual registered." Lairds Reserves were this week given a potential local derby as the Cheshire Senior cup gave last year's semi-finalists a 1st round draw against the winners of Hyde United v Vauxhall Motors. LAIRDS BOOSTED BY SPONSOR DEALS Birkenheads non league stars Cammell Lairds have been given a major close season boost with the signing of two significant sponsorship agreements.
Global brewing giants Carlsberg have been named as the official club sponsor. The substantial deal will been that the Lairds will run out with the famous name adorning the front of their shirts akin to their neighbours in red across the river.
Mississippis restaurant in Spital are another, more local company to come on board with Lairds under their 'Partnership in Business' scheme.
Lairds Chief Executive Simon Collister said that the deals were welcome as the Unibond League club rises up the non league pyramid. "To have the association with such an esteemed name as Carlsberg is fantastic for the club, the boys will be proud to be playing with the name on their shirts. The deal with Mississippis is just as good though as it shows that the local business community is firmly behind the club and our aspirations". Simon continues, "What we've found as we've had the successes in recent times is that the football fans of Birkenhead and Wirral are not used to having a non-league club playing at a high level on the football pyramid, Lairds and neighbours Vauxhall Motors are seeking to change that culture. We aim to show that for as little as £5 people can watch good quality football in a friendly environment, we've arranged with the Unibond League for our fixtures not to clash with Tranmere Rovers wherever possible, giving people the opportunity to catch a Lairds game if they can't travel to see the Rovers away."

LAIRDS ANNOUNCE NEW SIGNINGS
In the last few days Cammell Laird have scooped two major signings in their quest for Unibond League success in the forthcoming campaign.
Ex Blackburn Rovers defender Michael Cole has signed from neighbours Skelmersdale United for an undisclosed fee. Michael, who won several man of the match awards in Skem's promotion push last season, has a reputation for pinpoint accuracy in his passing and set piece play.

The other signing, again from Skelmersdale United is Ex Preston North End and Morecambe midfielder Tony Hallam. Strong in the air and a skillful tackler Tony will be a welcome addition to the Lairds squad.

Lairds assistant manager Paul Conboy in a statement said; "We are delighted to have signed Michael and Tony, they impressed us in both of the games against Skelmersdale last season. Our squad is pretty much unchanged from the one that did so well last season and the addition of Michael and Tony will enhance our chances of maintaining our rise up the football pyramid".

Cammell Laird fans' first chance to see the new signings will be at the traditional showpiece friendly against Tranmere Rovers at Kirklands on TUESDAY 11th JULY with a 7pm kick off.

The Rocket stays with Lairds

Cammell Lairds are pleased to announce that prolific scorer Ronnie 'Rocket' Morgan has signed an extension to his contract at Kirklands.
Ronnie, top scorer in the last two championship winning seasons, has amassed an incredible 147 goals in the last three seasons and hopes to take that form into the Unibond League.
Lairds assistant manager Paul Conboy in a club statement said; "We know that several league clubs have had their eye on Ronnie for a while now, we regard it as a bit of a coup to be able to hold on to Ronnie in the face of that competition. It says a lot about Ronnie's loyalty to Lairds and we look forward to another season of having to repair the goalnets from his famous Rocket goals!!"
